Care for our Common Home Weekend

A weekend of prayer, presentations and activity workshops was held at Holy Cross in June 2019 to draw attention to the issues facing our world and our environment as high-lighted in Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical entitled Laudato Si.  The theme was Care for our Common home and focused on raising awareness and inspiring actions amongst parishioners.

Fr Louis gave a presentation summarising the Pope’s messages from Laudato Si and the other talks included using a new clean energy source and the work of CAFOD.  These were followed by very interesting and interactive workshops namely, creating energy from waste, natural history and the world of moths, and how to create beautiful objects from throwaway materials.

The event ran from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon and included several opportunities for socialising including a Parish quiz all about the environment.  Throughout the weekend ideas and suggestions on how we can make a difference, were collected and this culminated in numerous pledges being made.

The plan is to continue building on this theme throughout the coming year and fulfil our commitments to make positive changes.
