Parish Safeguarding

The Catholic Church in England and Wales is striving towards a culture of safeguarding where all are safe from harm and where every person is encouraged and enabled to enjoy the fullness of life in Jesus Christ through prayerful, caring, nurturing, supportive and protective endeavours of the Catholic community, both individually and collectively.

DBS Process:

  • Meet with your parish safeguarding rep who will give you a Safeguarding Self-Declaration Form (SSD) to complete.
  • The Safeguarding Office will send an email including a link so that you can go online and complete a DBS form. If you do not have an email address please discuss this with your rep.
  • AFTER you have completed the online DBS form return to your rep and complete the ID verification process.
  • The ID verification process involves showing at least three forms of identification to the Safeguarding Rep and completing an ID form. Evidence will be needed of any previous names.
  • If you are applying for a new post within the parish then you will also need to fill in an application form and your rep will take up your references.
  • If you have previously subscribed to the Update Service and need a recheck please discuss with your Safeguarding Rep as you will still need to complete some paperwork.
  • If you already have a DBS for a ministry in your parish and wish to take up a new one you may not be covered by your previous check. Please discuss with your Parish rep.

Safeguarding Representatives:

  • Your Parish Safeguarding Reps can help you at any stage through the process by advising you on the documentation you will need for your check. Please contact the Parish Office who can put you in contact with them.
  • Safeguarding Reps are also there as your point of contact if you have any safeguarding concerns within your parish or elsewhere.
  • Should you have any concerns around safeguarding or to access free training in safeguarding issues please contact the Safeguarding Office on 01364 645430

If the matter requires an immediate response call the police on 999.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO MAKE OUR PARISH A SAFE PLACE FOR EVERYONE.
